Kay

Music has always been an important part of Kay’s life. I know everyone who is involved in music in one way or another has said that exact thing, but it’s still true. To put it simply, Kay loves music. She grew up with brothers and sisters singing, playing trumpets and saxophones, and listening to all different kinds of music. Being the youngest of 5, finding her own creative outlet was necessary. She’s always been involved in something- sports, art, but music is definitely a passion.
When Kay was younger; she would use anything as drum sticks and beat on whatever was near her. Around the age of 9, Santa finally brings her one. The hope would’ve been for her to be a prodigy- to never have one lesson and suddenly just know how to play. It didn’t happen. Although she can dance and has rhythm, keeping both hands and feet going to a different beat wasn’t happening. Alas, her dream of being a great female drummer is over.
Fast forward a few years and she’s about 14 or so. She decides that she wants to play guitar. Her parents purchase one for her along with a chord book. Amazingly, she picks this instrument up pretty quickly. She teaches herself a few songs and then begins writing her own. She loves the moments when she gets to be home alone and picks up the guitar to sing whatever is in her heart. Kay says, “You’re able to say so many things through song that you’d be unable to otherwise. It’s definitely one of the best gifts that you could have. Even expressing your emotions through a song that someone else wrote is a joy.” Now, she’s a bit older, still playing guitar, but also learning how to play piano and dj’ing. She loves watching people dance and introducing folks to a song that they’ve never heard. Country, pop, rock, classical, rap, r&b, electronic… she can’t get enough of it. She loves breaking it all down and hearing how everything came to be- the lyrics, the guitar sounds, the keys, drum beat, the groove of the bass…all of it, individually and together, ignites something inside of her.
Music is an emotional experience for Kay. Whether she’s playing it or listening to it, she finds comfort. It can make her laugh, put a smile on her face, bring her to tears, get her dancing, enable her to release anger, or help her to let go. She thanks God for the gift.

Music speaks what cannot be expressed, soothes the mind and gives it rest, heals the heart and makes it whole, flows from heaven to the soul.
